Driving, Lots and Lots of Driving

So, the Hubby and I just got home from a 6 day trip to Georgia, my home. We flew out there Friday morning and came home at 2 o'clock in the morning today. We went out there for our second wedding reception.

It was so much fun to see the family! My grandmother was there, as well as all of my siblings. My brother Michael, his wife and two kids, one of which was my 4 month old niece that I hadn't seen yet. And my sisters Michelle and Carrie. I also had an aunt and uncle come down from South Carolina for the day. It was so great! Not to mention all the friends I hadn't seen in a while.

The Hubby also had some family come down. His mother and one set of grandparents that live here in Utah were able to come, along with his aunt, uncle, and two cousins that live in North Carolina. The whole thing was a blast. There was dancing and laughter and cake and good food. Everything just turned out so wonderfully.

One of my bride's maids and best friends, Jessica, caught the bouquet, and my 4 year old nephew, Kevin, caught the garter. By the time we did the garter toss, he was the only single male there. It was way cute. As soon as I get the pictures, I'll post some up here.

The reception was Saturday night, we were so blasted from it that we didn't go to church on Sunday, just stayed home and relaxed. We opened our presents and got lots of nice things. My favorite things were a set of note pads and to-do list for a whole year and a beautiful pink and green glass bowl with roses on it that I have no clue what to do with. The Hubby's favorite thing was a digital picture frame, which figures since he's a photographer. Not to mention about $1,400, that was good too.

On Monday we started our 3 day, nearly 2,000 mile road trip back to Utah. We maneged to get all of my stuff into the SUV we rented. I was so afraid I was going to have to leave stuff behind. We didn't get very far that first day, only to the north side of Nashville, TN. We had only gotten 4 hours of sleep the night before because we had stayed up so late talking to my old high school friend, Lance, my sister, Michelle, and her fiance, Josh.

It also didn't help that I was sick that evening. I was emotionally drained from leaving home and then I hadn't been feeling good most of the week. So Daniel had to go and get me food and medicine while I laid in bed and moaned. That first night seriously sucked and we didn't get started until late that next day.

But Tuesday was better. The meds helped and I did more than half the driving. We went through Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, a pinch of Iowa and finally stop somewhere in Nebraska. We did a lot of back roads driving through Illinois to avoid I-64 because it was under construction and completely shut down. It was a pretty scenic tour, but it added a couple extra hours to our trip that day.

Thus, we had to make it up yesterday. We hit the road about 9am, Central Time, and got home about 1am, Mountain Time. When you do the math it's somewhere around 17 hours. Yeah, in short, it sucked ass!

But, it was an adventure. I learned some things though, while driving.
1) The further you get from home, the worse the bathrooms are.
2) Cruise control is your best friend.
3) Only use cruise control when you're awake.
4) Cars are never aligned perfectly straight.
5) GPS navigators don't understand the beauty of U-turns.
6) Be nice to semi trucks and they'll be nice to you. (not to mention getting truck karma from the truck gods)
7) Caffeine is your friend.
8) Take lots of breaks.
And finally, 9) Speed limit signs on open interstates are really just suggestions.

Well, this blog is getting long enough, I'll come back later with pictures and more stories.
