A Writing Expirement: WordSpill

Alright so I just found this really cool new project on DeviantArt called Worspill. See here for full details: http://wordspill.deviantart.com/ I'm really excited about it and I've already done the first prompt. Here are some of the basic guidelines so that you understand what I'm about to post is all about.

You have 10 minutes to write something using a prompt. This weeks prompt was "Welcome". The catch is you have to just write freely without looking at what you wrote until after the 10 minutes. The best way to do this is to type it out in white font so you can't see it even if you look up at the screen.

After the 10 minutes you go back and make a copy of what you wrote, edit it how you please and then post both the unedited and edited versions together so you can see the process.

I'm so glad I found something like this because I've been wanting to get back into my writing more seriously. At first I was thinking of picking up one of my abandoned novel ideas but then I realized that was a little too ambitious. I needed to start out small. So this and other little project type things will be good for me. Simple little warm ups before I step back into the big game.

But now, no more exposition, let's get to the real stuff!

The Spill

Welsome to the end, the beginning, the all” he said with a swipping bow and a tip of his tall hat. I started and looked around, unsure of where I was or how I got there.

“What the…”

“You’re wondering where you are I’m guessing, correct/?”

I nodded, still unable to gather my thoughts.

“As I said, you are at the end, the beginning, the all.”

“And what is that surposed to man?”

“That is for you to find out. I d not hold the answers for you.”

“Well that’s damned annoying,” I growled.

“Most things are in life.”

I took a good ahard klook at the man before me. He was wearing a red veslvet suit with black trimmings and a shinny blck top hat. His boots were much like the hat and had a curl at the toes. He looked like so much of an evil little imp, pointed ears and all. I glared at him and with one flick of my hand upset the hat and caused to go flying into the air on it’s own violation.

“Hey! He shouted trying in vain to grab at it.

“Pip! Honestly!, why do you do this to me?”

“Because you’ve been ignoring me. Ever since you got married it’s been nothing but ‘Daniel this’ and ‘Daniel that’! I’m sick of it! I was here first you know!”

“Yes, I know Pip. You were always first. But life’s gotten alittle crazy and I’m just not sure what I’m doing wit it or you right now.”

“Well that’s a poor excuse…”

“So sue me! What do you want me to do about it?”

“Just spend a little time with me everyday. That’s all I’m asking. It’s not like you don’t have time. Just one hour a day that you could welcome me back into your soul.”

My head sagged, he was right, of course, he generally was. I shook my head trying to clear away the fuzzies he always put there, trying to think on my own. I looked up into this emerald green eyes that were pleading with me.

I opened my arms and smiled, “Welocme home Pip, welcome home.”

The Clean-Up

“Welcome to the end, the beginning, the all!” he said with a sweeping bow, a shinny black top hat in one hand, the other held over his heart.

I started and looked around, unsure of where I was or how I got there. “What the…”

“You’re wondering where you are, correct?” the man asked as he placed the hat over his lime green curls.

I nodded, still unable to gather my thoughts.

“As I said, you are at the end, the beginning, the all.”

“And what is that supposed to mean?”

“That is for you to find out. I do not hold the answers for you.”

“Well that’s damned annoying,” I growled.

“Most things are in life.”

I took a good hard look at the man before me. He was wearing a red velvet suit with black trimmings. His boots had curled toes and were shined to such a high polish that I could see my reflection in them. He looked an evil little imp, pointed ears and all.

I glared at this familiar face with its devilish grin and with a flick of my hand, grabbed the hat from atop his head and threw it into the air. The wind caught it and took it away with a chuckle.

“Hey!” he shouted, trying in vain to grab at it.

“Pip! Honestly! Why do you do this to me?”

“Because you’ve been ignoring me! Ever since you got married it’s been nothing but ‘Daniel this’ and ‘Daniel that’! I’m sick of it! I was here first you know!” Pip, my muse, pouted.

“Yes, I know. But life has gotten a little crazy and I’m just not sure what I’m doing with it or you right now.”

“Well that’s a poor excuse…” he turned away, refusing to look me in the eye.

“So sue me! What do you want me to do about it?”

“Just spend a little time with me everyday. That’s all I’m asking. Just an hour a day that you could use to welcome me back into your soul.” He turned back towards me. The pain in his eyes was too much for me to bear and I was the one forced to look away.

My head sagged, I shook it trying to clear away the fuzziness he always put there; trying to think on my own. He was right, of course, he generally was. I finally looked up into those emerald green eyes that were pleading with me.

I opened my arms and smiled, “Welcome home Pip. Welcome home.”
