Ok, so last night Daniel and I went and saw The Dark Knight at the IMAX. I've never seen a regular movie at the IMAX before, so that in of it's self was really cool. Having that huge screen and all the action just right there in front of you, it's pretty darn cool. But while the experience was fun, I wasn't too fond of the movie.
Let me first say, that I do like Batman. I have always liked the Batman movies, especially the ones that came out in the 90's. (Even though Batman isn't my favorite comic book character, I'm an X-Man fan girl at heart.) And I loved Batman Begins. But this movie just didn't thrill me like the last one.
(SPOILER ALERT!! IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE DARK KNIGHT AND DON'T WANT TO KNOW HOW IT ENDS AND WHATNOT, STOP READING NOW!!)
First of all, the movie was way too dark and creepy for my taste. I hate clowns, so the Joker scared the living shit out of me. And I had a hard time looking at Harvey when he got all burnt up and became Two Face. And that's odd because I like zombie movies and I'm used to seeing half dead corpses walking around. But the special effects they used for him were just too real, it took me awhile to get used to him.
Second, I didn't like Rachel at all. They changed the actress, which was a bad move. I liked Katie Holmes better. I don't know who this actress was, but she just wasn't pretty. I'm not saying she was exactly ugly or anything, just not as pretty as the main female character in a movie of this sort should be. And as Daniel said, she looked old. I didn't like that she died, I know there was a reason for it; we wouldn't have had Two Face if she lived. But, she did die well, I commend her for not screaming and crying, she excepted her fate and died well.
Third, what was with Batman's voice? It was kind of annoying. I know he doesn't want anyone to guess who he was, but really. And all I could think about was the sore throat Christian Bale must of had at the end of every shot like that.
Fourth, the new "bat cave". One word: lame! A big empty room with lots of lights? That's not Batman at all. He's a bat for crying out loud, he needs to be in the dark, in a cave!
Fifth, why does Harvey have to die, but the Joker gets to go to jail and live? I liked Harvey, even when he went crazy. He, unlike the Joker, had a real reason to go nuts and kill people. And just as a thought, I would have ran Joker's ass over the first chance I had. No dodging for me. I would have went back and ran him over again just to be sure I got it right.
And finally, I thought the ending was weak. Batman making him self the sacrificial lamb is just not cool. I'm not sure what else they could have done, but I just didn't like that ending.
Now, after saying all that, there were some things I did like, a lot. The action was great! Lots of explosions and a heavy body count. And as much as the Joker creeped me out, he was a good solid character and he had some great lines. I love it when he's walking out of the hospital and the last bomb takes too long to go off, that is a truly comedic scene. Also, the suspense was good, you never knew what was going to happen next or how the Joker was going to screw with Batman's mind.
So over all, it was a good movie, just not my cup of tea.
